Welcome to Mrs. McIver's Web page.  I hope to keep everyone "up-to-date" on all happenings in 5M for  Spring.

Reading:

We are reading stories from our curriculum book daily and progressing at a nice pace.  Remember to remind all students to pursue their AR goal and keep reading afterwards for entertainment and have fun.  Reading is the key to good critical thinking skills in all the subjects.

Math:

Both classes are studying fractions and decimals.  Tests will be given as each section is completed in their texts.

Each student should have homework almost every night to complete as a reinforcement of the daily lesson.  Remember to keep drilling on the multiplication tables, if not nightly, then at least once a week.  These skills are imperative for a good comprehension of all math work for the remainder of their entire education.

Vocabulary:

Daily vocabulary is completed each day in our workbook.  Each Thursday there is a test on the unit for the week and each Friday we will have a spelling test on those words.

Social Studies:

The American Revolution is our goal for the month of April.  We hope to complete the next unit, that covers our Constitution and the basics on the new government, in the month of May.

The students are really enjoying this section of our history.  The movie "The Crossing" will be viewed as soon as we complete the revolution section.  This is a movie that was aired on the A&E network a few years ago about George Washington crossing the Delaware River.  It will give a great intro into this section of history.
